This Friday is the start of a long weekend here in England as it’s the early summer bank holiday. I believe it’s a long weekend in the U.S as well for Memorial Day?
For most people, this weekend usually includes some travel or a short vacation of sorts. Therefore I have scoured the interwebs for useful packing tips and tricks whether you are headed to the beach or taking in new sights in a city based vacay.
I believe packing is a more strenuous process than unpacking, especially when you have limited luggage allowance or are visiting somewhere new. The key (no matter how fussy it sounds) is to plan, plan to the T.
Fashion editors somehow tend to be great at packing because of all the travel they do for shoots. Thankfully, two of them have published packing strategies and tips on effective holiday packing on their blogs.
Here are some of Laura of Wearing It Today/ Wardrobe Icons, holiday packing tips
Alex Stedman of The Frugality also offers her advice on holiday packing here,
Here are some common threads amongst the packing tips plus my two cents
- Plan: Having an itinerary of activities for your holiday is a great help to your holiday wardrobe. This serves as a guide and helps you not over-pack or under-pack.
- Decide on a colour theme and stick to it: Having a colour combination in mind will save you the hassle of packing unnecessary items, as your entire suitcase will be filled with carefully co-ordinated outfits
- Travel size personal and beauty items are your best friends: they save space and you get to carry on your skincare regime on holiday. Plus MUJI is great for decanters and travel storage bags
- Save space by inserting items into each other: Socks, swimwear, things that require no ironing can be stuffed into items like sun hats in your suitcase helping you better manage space.
What do you do in the run up to a holiday? Do you get a hair treatment, mani / pedi? Here are some tips on strategic preparation pre-holiday.
Finally, have you heard of Away? Away is a company (founded by two Warby Parker alumni – Steph & Jennifer) that created this iconic carryon luggage that has a compression system, a removable laundry bag and battery with USB charging for your devices. Watch a video in the link here
They were recently featured on The Style Line. I initially heard about Jennifer a few years ago via Levo League. She was a Levo mentor. It’s great to see her creativity flourish in something so useful.
I hope you have a lovely and restful long weekend whatever your plans are.
