I’ve fallen in love with the midi. There’s something particularly stylish about dresses that fall mid-way between the knees and the ankles. While the mini is fun and flirty, the midi to me is sophisticated chic.
I stayed away from the midi for the longest time for a lack of how to style it. The mid length can be bit tricky but the unstable English weather surprisingly helped in solving this issue.
For a casual look: Pair with simple white sneakers like the Superga’s 1990 or converse
For a pretty day time look: wear with chunky mid- heel sandals
At Night/ A dressy occasion: Pair with ankle boots preferably ones with an added oomph e.g. glitter heel or the Chloe Susanna boots if you can afford a pair.
Here are 5 Midi dresses I have my eyes on as we approach autumn,
& Other Stories: More a maxi than a midi, this dress is high on my autumn wish list. I love everything about it, the fabric, the style, every single detail! You’ve probably seen in on Instagram on some of your favourite magazine editors. It’s so pretty and perfect. Cannot wait to get my hands on them.
New look: This was quite the unexpected hero. Often times, it’s so easy to overlook the fast fashion brands, but somehow New Look always manages to surprise me almost every season. This dress is pretty and can easily be dressed up in boots or down with white sneakers.
Warehouse: The appointment of Emma Cook as creative director at Warehouse last autumn is one of the most valuable and impactful career changes I have witnessed. That lady, together with Alasdhair Willis (formerly of Hunter Boots) have breathed new life into Warehouse. The prints, the designs, the quality, at this point, it’s almost safe to say Warehouse is an affordable Whistles – delivering authentic British style at friendly prices. What is not to love!
Stine Goya: Recently discovered Stine Goya via Man Repeller and I love her design aesthetic. The Danish designer studied at London’s Central Saint Martins and set up her design house right after graduation. I must say Scandinavian designers are a breath of fresh air to the British fashion scene. I am definitely looking forward to more designers from the region especially as the Swedish and Danish Fashion weeks are gaining more media interest.
J by Jasper Conran: Perfect for work and formal meetings. Pair with a pair of pointy heels and you are good to go.
