Personally, I would say I am more a shoe person than a bag person if I had to choose. However, when it comes to editing the work wardrobe, a handbag is a statement piece that not only pulls your entire work outfit together, the right handbag also creates a sophisticated “I mean business” look.
Today, we have put together a number of our favourite work style bags as well as some helpful tips in selecting a bag for work. This is not an exhaustive list as we all have different careers and work in different environments.
Here are our tips for selecting a durable and efficient hand bag for work.
1. Texture: Leather. Nothing is as durable as leather. So if you can afford it, we say go for it. Leather bags should be an investment with excellent cost per wear because of the durability of the material. It makes very good quality for daily use.
2. Structure: The more defined in shape your handbag is, the better for you. A well structured bag will not easily lose shape from constant use. A bag with structure also helps in organising the daily necessities you like to carry. Here’s where the Longchamp Le Pliage struggles. The bag is an excellent bag for many reasons, versatile, light weight, can fit almost anything, but I find most struggle with finding a bunch of keys in the bag. Saying that, a bag organiser can be purchased to make it work better.
Dagne Dover are a brand that do organised handbags with a space for everything. Take a look,
We literally screamed for joy when we stumbled upon this brand- this is what women have been looking for! Sadly by the time we got wind of this organised amazingness, they had sold out. But… we are on a list for the next time they are available (which should be any day now). We’ve got our eye on the oxblood or linen coloured Tote.
3. Comfortable straps: If you are going to be toting a bag on your shoulder or in your hands, you needs straps that don’t create a discomfort. When you go shopping for a bag, please do a strap test to avoid ergonimical hazards in the future.
